Northwest of central Kalamata lies Almiros: a beach with a completely different vibe from the quiet, deserted coves elsewhere on this site. Here you come for the buzz — lively beach bars, music, and a mixed crowd from young to old.
Something for everyone
Almiros isn’t an exclusive beach-club strip: the beach bars here are laid-back and affordable, with a relaxed, hip vibe and good music. Exactly the kind of beach where you end up staying all afternoon without it costing a fortune.
Where to go
The busiest, hippest stretch of Almiros (in Greek: Αλμυρός Βέργας) sits at Kato Verga, where three well-known beach clubs sit right next to each other:
- Almyra Beach Bar — lively atmosphere, comfortable sunbeds and large umbrellas, right on the water.
- Abat Jour — lounge and cocktail bar, a bit more upscale, worth staying for into the evening.
- GinGer — just as popular with locals as with visitors, in the same stretch.
All three are an easy short drive from Kalamata’s main beach, and pair well with an evening at Taverna Petralono or Kastraki-Meteoro, further along the Verga slope.
Sunbeds
Most beach bars offer free sunbeds as long as you order something — just ask when you arrive. That beats plenty of other beaches where a sunbed comes with a standard charge.
Pebbles, not sand
To be fair: Almiros is a pebble beach, not a sandy one. Water shoes aren’t a bad idea if you have sensitive feet, but the water itself is no less beautiful for it.
