Hidden Beaches South of Kalamata

South of Kalamata, past the busy city beaches, a string of small coves lines the coast toward Kalogria and beyond. No sunbeds, no beach bar with a menu in five languages — just clear water and enough room to lay out your towel without a neighbour.

Why these beaches don’t make the guidebooks

Most tourists stop at the first big beach visible from the road. The smaller coves sit a little further on, often tucked behind an olive grove or down an unmarked dirt track, with no signposts. Locals know them by word of mouth, not Google Maps.

Best time to go

Early morning, before ten, or late afternoon after five. In July and August the heat can be intense with no shade, so bring your own sun umbrella — you won’t find one to rent here.

Good to know

  • You’ll need your own car: no bus route passes directly here.
  • Bring water and food, there’s no kiosk nearby.
  • Sturdy-soled shoes help for the last stretch over the rocks.
