Ouzo Kostea, also known as Kosteas Distillery, is a small artisan distillery in Kalamata that has been distilling ouzo and tsipouro using traditional methods for generations.
Artisan distilling
Kosteas isn’t a bar or ouzeri to sit and drink at, but a distillery and shop where the ouzo and tsipouro are produced and sold. Distillation takes place in copper stills, following a family recipe passed down for decades. Anise is the dominant flavor, as is typical of traditional Greek ouzo, with subtle spiced undertones that can vary by batch.
What you can buy
Besides its own ouzo, Kosteas also produces tsipouro (Greek grape pomace brandy) and sometimes other local liqueurs. The bottles make a fitting souvenir for anyone wanting to take home a piece of authentic Messinian drinking culture — a more tangible memento than a bottle from the supermarket.
