About 12 kilometres from Kalamata, where the Messinian Gulf gives way to the start of the Mani, sits Kitries: a picturesque fishing village with a small, quiet pebble beach and green water.
Small but well loved
Kitries’ beach is small and calm, with a handful of sunbeds and umbrellas, surrounded by lush vegetation reaching down to the water. Exactly the vibe for families looking for quiet rather than a busy beach club.
Small also means it fills up fast. In summer, especially on weekends, arrive early to claim a spot.
Fresh-caught fish
The village is known for its fresh fish, served in tavernas right on the water. After an afternoon swimming, this is one of the better places in the region to sit down for a simple, fresh fish meal with a sea view.

- Location: about 12 km from Kalamata, at the start of the Messinian Mani.
- Pebble beach, not sand.
- At Cape Kitries stands the lighthouse of the same name, built in 1892 in the style of a Maniot tower house — a nice stop before or after the beach.
